Pick Supabase if you want SQL, a table you can open, and login included on the free project. Pick Convex if you want a backend where queries update the UI, and you are fine leaving SQL behind. Supabase Pro starts at $25 a month per project. Convex Professional is $25 per developer a month. Those are different bills.

Honest pick if you want rows and a familiar database: Supabase. Honest pick if the app should stay in sync as data changes and you will learn Convex's model: Convex.

Prices were checked October 15, 2026 on the official pages linked in the table. A number that was not printed there stays TBD. Pair pages that repeat a full guide are not listed here. Those guides stay the canonical page.

## Comparison

### Supabase
Best for: SQL tables, auth, and files
Site: https://supabase.com
- Free: $0. 500 MB database per project, 50,000 monthly active users, 5 GB egress, 1 GB file storage, and 2 active projects. Free projects pause after 1 week idle. Checked October 15, 2026 on https://supabase.com/pricing.
- Paid: Pro starts at $25 a month, including $10 in compute credits for one Micro project, 8 GB disk, and 100,000 monthly active users, then $0.00325 each. Checked October 15, 2026 on https://supabase.com/pricing.
- Who it is for: You want to inspect the data as rows, use Postgres from any client, and keep auth next to the database.
- Downside: Free pauses after a week of inactivity. You wire realtime yourself if you need the screen to update when a row changes.

### Convex
Best for: A reactive backend, not a SQL table
Site: https://www.convex.dev
- Free: Free, or $0 a month pay as you go, for 1 to 6 developers. Includes file storage, text search, vector search, crons, auth, and preview deployments. Deployment limit 40. Concurrent sessions 1,000. Custom domains and daily backups are not included. A free storage cap in GB was not a single number on the plan card, so that size stays TBD. Checked October 15, 2026 on https://www.convex.dev/pricing.
- Paid: Professional is $25 per developer a month, for 1 to 20 developers. It adds custom domains, daily backups, and email support. Deployment limit 300. Business has a $2,500 monthly minimum. Checked October 15, 2026 on https://www.convex.dev/pricing.
- Who it is for: You want functions and data in one TypeScript backend, and you want the client to update when the data changes.
- Downside: It is not Postgres. You cannot point an existing SQL tool at it and expect tables. Professional bills per developer, so a second person is another $25.

## Questions

### Is Convex a Postgres host?

No. Convex is its own backend with queries, mutations, and actions. Supabase is Postgres. If you need SQL, dumps, or a table editor full of rows, stay on Supabase.

### Which paid plan is $25?

Both name $25, and they do not buy the same thing. Supabase Pro is $25 a month and the included compute credit covers one Micro project. Convex Professional is $25 per developer a month. Two Convex developers are $50 before usage.

### What is free on Convex?

The Free and Starter plan is $0 a month, for up to 6 developers, with auth, file storage, and preview deployments. Custom domains and daily backups are not on that plan. The free storage size in GB was not printed as one number, so it stays TBD.

### Which one should I pair with Lovable?

If Lovable is already storing the data, you do not need either yet. When you outgrow that, Supabase is the usual next step because the rows are visible. The database guide is at https://buildstackweekly.com/best-database-for-vibe-coders.
