Bolt vs Cursor

Start in Bolt.new if you do not have a project yet and you want a site from a prompt. Move to Cursor when the files are the place you want to work. Bolt Pro is $25 a month. Cursor Plus is $8 a month, and that Plus plan does not include Claude.

Honest pick with no repo: Bolt.new. Honest pick once the code exists and you want an editor: Cursor.

If the other option is Lovable, not Bolt, use the guide at https://buildstackweekly.com/lovable-vs-cursor (opens in a new tab). That guide is the canonical page for that pair.

Prices were checked October 15, 2026 on the official pages linked in the table. A number that was not printed there stays TBD. Pair pages that repeat a full guide are not listed here. Those guides stay the canonical page.

Who each tool is for

  • Bolt.new

You want a hosted result this weekend and you have not created a GitHub repo, installed an editor, or picked a host.

  • Cursor

The project is already files on your machine or on GitHub, and you want the agent next to those files.

One downside each

  • Bolt.new. The token meter is the limit, and it gets more expensive per message as the project grows. Free keeps the Bolt badge.
  • Cursor. Cursor does not hand you a hosted app. You still need the project, the host, and the database. Plus does not include Claude, and the free request cap is TBD.

Questions

Can I start in Bolt and finish in Cursor?

Yes. Build the first version in Bolt, put the code in a repo, then open that repo in Cursor. Cursor's free plan is $0. The request cap on that plan is TBD.

Which one is cheaper?

Cursor Plus is $8 a month and Bolt Pro is $25 a month. They are not substitutes. Plus does not host the site, and it does not include Claude. Bolt Pro includes hosting, removes branding, and adds a custom domain.

Does Bolt include an editor like Cursor?

Bolt shows the code in the browser. Cursor is a separate editor you install. If you want Claude's models inside Cursor, that starts on Premium at $30 a month, plus API list price.

What about Claude Code?

Claude Code is a terminal agent, not a browser builder. Cursor vs Claude Code is the guide at https://buildstackweekly.com/cursor-vs-claude-code (opens in a new tab).
