Cursor vs Claude Code
Use Cursor if you want the files, the chat, and the agent in one editor, including on a free plan. Use Claude Code if you already live in the terminal and you will pay for Claude. Claude Code is not on Claude's free plan. Cursor's free plan is $0, and its paid Plus plan does not include Claude models.
Honest pick for a beginner: Cursor. You can start for $0 and see the files. Move to Claude Code when the terminal is where you want the agent, and budget for Claude Pro.

Claude Code
You already use the terminal, and you are ready to pay for Claude Pro or above.
Honest downsides
- Cursor. Plus does not include Claude. You need Premium or above, and those models are an extra API charge. The free request cap is TBD.
- Claude Code. You cannot start Claude Code on the free Claude plan. Usage is shared with chat, and the cap is not a published message count. Heavy use can push you to Max or to usage credits at API rates.

Not the way to get Claude's models on the cheap. Plus is $8 and those models are not included.
Claude Code
